How do I place a bid?
From the frontpage of the auctions, click on the auction that you want to bid on. On the auction details page, below the main details there is a section where you can place a bid. Enter the number of points you want to bid, and hit the "Place bid" button at the bottom of that section. You'll then be asked to confirm your bid (as well as your e-mail address), and you'll have the option of changing your notification status.

How do I tell when I'm outbid?
Well, checking back on the auctions page is the easiest way to tell if you're outbid. The auctions details page and the auctions frontpage will show the current top bidder. When you are the top bidder, however, a third notification option becomes available. You can opt to receive e-mail notification if you get outbid. Look for this third notification option on the item details page (or the bid confirmation page, if you're placing a bid).

What's the minimum and maximum bid?
The minimum bid varies depending on the current bid:
  • If there is no bid, the minimum bid is 100 points.
  • If the high bid is under 100,000 points, the minimum bid is 0.2% more than the current bid (if 0.2% is less than 1 point, the minimum bid is 1 point + the current bid).
  • If the high bid is 100,000 points or over, the minimum bid is capped at the current bid + 200 points.
Why is there a minimum bid? Well, the minimum bid is designed to deter people from outbidding by a single point. If someone wants to win an auction, they should be willing to bid more than just one point more than the current bid. The minimum bid is capped at 200 points more than the current bid once the bid reaches 100,000 points.

The maximum bid is your total current points (the number you see at the top of every page on Student.com).

How do I claim a prize?
When you win an auction, you will be sent an e-mail with a link telling you how to claim your prize. Follow the instructions on the claim page when you receive this e-mail. You will be asked when you place a bid to update your e-mail address, so be sure to put your current, valid e-mail address in or we will be unable to notify you if you win the auction.

NOTE: If you do not claim your prize within 30 days, the auction item will be released for re-auction and your winning bid will be invalid. So be sure to claim your prize!

When exactly does my auction end?
You can see the end date of an auction from the auction details page. The length each auction varies, depending on the prize. Regardless of how many days auctions go on for, every single auction ends at 11:59:59 PM, EST. If an auction says 10 days, 8 hours left, this means that the auction will end at 11:59 and 59 seconds 10 days from now.
